Each week, Female CoFounder features a female founder in the community. Follow along each week and learn from different founders and their journeys.
FcF: Tell us about yourself
Minh: I graduated from the University of Toronto from Pharmacy and practiced as a pharmacist for 7 years before starting Vidal Home Care. During my practice, I had the chance to get to know many elderly patients and their family caregivers and over time, came to understand their struggles on a deeper level.
Then my aunt and grandma got sick at the same time and my parents found themselves in the same position. It's what eventually propelled me into starting Vidal Home Care.
FcF: What is Vidal Home Care?
Minh: Vidal Home Care is a platform that connects families with elderly loved ones to qualified and vetted caregivers, and makes the matching and transacting process super easy.
FcF: How did you come up with Vidal Home Care?
Minh: When my aunt and grandma got sick at the same time, it was an immensely stressful time for our family, especially my parents. I thought there had to be a better way.
FcF: What were the first 3 steps you took after you knew you wanted to pursue this idea?
Minh: I knew there was lots to learn but I didn't want to wait until I knew "everything" - if that's even possible. I wanted to get started and was committed to learning as I went along.
The first few things I did once I decided on a business model were to find a designer and developer to build my digital assets - the website, and mobile apps.
I spent my days recruiting, interviewing and onboarding caregivers and I taught myself SEO, SEM and email marketing.
FcF: If you are CoFounder, how did you meet your CoFounder? What do you look for in finding your CoFounders?
Minh: I currently a solo founder but am actively looking for a cofounder! The most important consideration is that we complement each other in our skill sets.
FcF: What advice do you have for other women who have a start-up idea or side project idea?
Minh: Just to do it. Put one foot in front of the other and start walking the path. I was tempted to wait until I had all the answers but if you do so, you'll never be able to start. You have to start and be prepared to keep learning.
FcF: How can the Female CoFounder community help you?
Minh: The Female CoFounder community is a great community of female entrepreneurs. I love that it's a place where we can get together to support one another. If there's someone here who'd like to discuss being a co-founder, I'd love to chat!
FcF: How can people contact you?
Minh: Direct message me on the FCF Slack channel or shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org!
