Meet Mary Queen Adam, CEO & CoFounder of GRANDUNO

FcF: Tell us about yourself? 

Mary Queenie :

  • Lawyer and Financial planner for SMEs and High networth individuals. Proud member of the Female founder collective, Elpha for women in tech and advising leader to female apprentices at FLIK. 
  • Co Founder and CEO of a women led startup @ GRANDUNO.
  • Currently in Mauritius and relocating to SF Bay area as soon as possible.

FcF: What is GRANDUNO ?

Mary Queenie: GRANDUNO offers a hybrid social network and marketplace for SMEs: 

  • A social profile with a discovery page allowing businesses and customers to engage with each other privately or publicly via chat, posts, opinions, reviews, videos or photos;
  • Communities of your interest, where the user can share his opinions, experiences, give feedback and help each other through peer to peer and B2C interactions;
  • A sales generating software: A user needs something. He posts a request. Request is auto-matched to relevant businesses. Interested businesses contacts client. Client agrees and confirm and request is fulfilled. (Example: You are searching for cupcakes for a party. You post your cupcake request with details. Request is auto-matched with relevant cupcakes providers / makers. Interested ones contact you and make a proposal. You review the proposals, choose and confirm)

FcF: How did you come up with GRANDUNO?

Mary Queenie: With the pandemic COVID 19, we were concerned at the number of SMEs suffering and we thought of creating a social space for them to showcase their products/service and promote local SMEs.

FcF: What advice do you have for SME’s in surviving and thriving through this pandemic? 

Mary Queenie:  We just cannot beat the power of community-driven, organic engagement!! 

FcF: What were the first 3 steps you took after you knew you wanted to pursue this idea?

Mary Queenie: 

  1. Test the idea with online entrepreneurs: 10,500 interested users in 5 1/2 weeks across 153 countries; 
  2. Build MVP;
  3. Establish user acquisition strategy in target city launch.

FcF: How did you meet your Co-Founder? What do you look for in a Co-Founder? 

Mary Queenie: In a Co-Founder, I am looking for 

1) Determination, perseverance and vision 

2) Industry knowledge 

3) Honesty


FcF: What advice do you have for other women who have a start-up idea or side project idea?

Mary Queenie: The road ain't simple but we are Women of Content - We are Able and We Can.

FcF: How can the Female CoFounder community help you?  

Mary Queenie: I would like our slogan "SMEs are Beautiful" to go viral and have support in our project.
