FcF: Tell us about yourself?
Tina: It’s been an unpredictable ride...a rupture to my achilles put me on this incredible path. I was set on becoming a dancer but injury led me to my love of Marketing. In University, I won the Dobson Marketing Competition with my team and was forever hooked.
After graduation, I backpacked Thailand. While on the beach we were approached by a group who worked for Facebook. I later followed one of them back to NYC (as people do in their 20’s). When I returned home, I took every course on Digital Marketing and applied to every job but was turned down for lack of experience.
I decided to get my own. Freelancing gave me the experience to get a job that I thought I so desperately wanted. I started as a Social Media Coordinator for a company based in Toronto/NYC. I quickly realized the cubicle 9-5 life was not for me. Thus, began the research on #DigitalNomads.
I worked my 9-5 and came home and worked on my clients until sleep took over. I did this for 8 months until I could replace the income from my promotion… and that’s how VanderSocial was born!
FcF: What is VanderSocial?
Tina: VanderSocial is a full-service digital marketing & consulting agency that specializes in helping entrepreneurs build balanced lives and businesses. We came to the realization that the “hustle” lifestyle had an expiry date with a side of burn out and wanted to focus on the whole picture. Our life is rarely separate from work, which is why we need to #dowhatwelove while maintaining the balance of business, wellness, and mindset.
VanderSocial is a team of digital experts with a well-rounded skill set covering everything from branding, website development, content creation, online advertising, and everything in between. We meet you where you are happily filling in the cracks so you can wear one less hat while you save your time and energy to watch your company scale to new heights!
We offer a variety of service and consulting packages and are also in the process of developing an online course to help more entrepreneurs build their dream life faster.
FcF: How did you come up with VanderSocial?
Tina: Based on my own experience! I have lived the agency life and sat in my cubicle craving freedom. I’ve worked to slowly make those day dreams a reality in search of what I love to do. And I understand the burnout freelancers face when building their companies and being unsure how to scale to set themselves up for a prosperous future.
Health and wellness have also always been a passion of mine and a priority. They are usually the first to go when we feel overwhelmed with tasks and this can take a ripple effect on various aspects of your life, the same goes for plugging away at a job that no longer inspires you. VanderSocial brings my values and everything I love to do together into one and hopefully inspires others to take ownership of their lives.
FcF: What advice do you have for founders in content writing?
Tina: Be true to yourself. We live in an online landscape where community and influence is everything. People no longer want to buy from brands. They want to buy from people! Letting the real you shine through your content is your highest advantage. Keep being original and looking for ways to serve your audience. So many content writers make the mistake of just talking about themselves… make sure you are offering value. Example: My experience of _____ means _____ for you.
FcF: What were the first 3 steps you took after you knew you wanted to pursue this idea?
Tina: There are so many opportunities if you just put yourself out there and go after what you want!
FcF: What advice do you have for other women who have a start-up idea or side project idea?
Tina: Let go of the self doubt… I spent so much time in that ugly space.
You’ll never know until you try and trying is the only way to spark ideas of how things could work. You’ll always figure it out- you don’t need to know everything right from the start , no one does.
FcF: How can the Female CoFounder community help you?
Tina: I’d love to connect with like-minded individuals and hear their stories.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing or on the brink of “burn out” or unsure how to scale. I’d love to have a conversation and understand pain points and how I can help- Get in touch below!
FcF: How can people contact you?
